The year 2025 begins with the devastating news of another natural disaster in the Himalayas.
At 9 a.m. on January 7, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck Shigatse prefecture in western Tibet.
So far, 126 people have been confirmed dead, 188 injured, and over 3,600 homes destroyed. Tragically, these numbers are expected to rise. The harsh winter conditions, with temperatures dropping as low as -18°C, are worsening the crisis.
ASIA is close to the people of Shigatse and is in contact with local organisations in Nepal to support humanitarian aid.
