Dear Readers and friends of The Mirror,

Wishing you a peaceful and prosperous New Year!

We are pleased to inform you that the December 2023 issue of The Mirror, no.162, is now online and ready for downloading at melong.com and  dzogchen.net.

The new issue presents an excerpt from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu’s teaching on the Six Liberations, given during a retreat on the Song of the Vajra in Hong Kong in May 2012.

Following that there is a transcript of Steven Landsberg’s talk Glimpses on the Path on all the aspects of the path which help practitioners to progress, given during a retreat in October, 2023, in Santa Fe, USA.

The focus of the issue is the 40th anniversary of Shang Shung Publications, the publishing house of the Dzogchen Community, which is offering a free e-booklet on this occasion.

• The SSP team expresses their gratitude to all friends, colleagues, volunteers, supporters and readers for their continued support.

• Antonio Morgione recounts how he received the poem “Advice to Antonio Morgione, an Ornament of Vowels and Consonants”, which is contained in the e-booklet as a gift from Master Namkhai Norbu.

• Giovanni Arca, President of the original SSP Cooperative, recalls the first twelve years of the publishing house.

• Gaetano Ruvolo, Managing director 2014–2018, describes the changes of the organization to become a full-fledged publishing house, both for Dzogchen practitioners around the world and for everybody interested in the Teachings.

As usual, we bring you current news and updates from different bodies of the Dzogchen Community – the Ka-Ter Translation project, Shang Shung Institute UK, ASIA Onlus, as well as some international Gars and Lings – Dzamling Gar, Merigar West, Merigar East, Namgyalgar, Kunkyabling and Phendeling.

Urara Taoka, Timo Moss, Lourdes Velaochaga discuss their experience of organizing the celebrations for Dzamling Gar’s 10th Anniversary.

The Mirror interviews Migmar Tsering, Tibetan artist resident at Merigar, who talks about the history and development of Dynamic Space of the Elements.

There are two book reviews in this issue: Julia Lawless reviews Nigel Wellings’ new book Dzogchen: Who’s Who & What’s What in the Great Perfection, which provides a helpful historical framework and context for understanding the main principles of the tradition, while Andy Lukianowicz shares his impressions of The Life of a Great Bonpo Master -The Biography of Yongdzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche, which recounts the life, full of great achievements, of the greatest Bonpo master of this generation.

Healers in the Community’ features Gino Vitiello’s article The Importance of the Spiritual Dimension in Illness, while Amely Becker shares her personal journey with Gestalt therapy.

Pictures from the Past’ continues Raimondo Bultrini’s account of his time with Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in Tibet in 1988. In this final episode the travelers, spending time in Changchub Dorje’s village, meet the Master at long last.

Our Vajra sister Lilia Letti shares her story of meeting Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in the ‘How I Met’  feature.
