With Eva Leick, May 23-25 in Widdersberg, Germany
Over the Pentecost weekend, Yeshiling hosted a practice retreat with Khaita teacher Eva Leick in Widdersberg, which is located southwest of Munich/Germany. The focus of this course was the Dzamling Gar song and its dance. Eva introduced us to the origins, content, and meaning of this extraordinary song—the only Khaita song composed by Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and representing a complete teaching. We learned the pronunciation and melody, and with angelic patience, Eva explained the choreography of the song’s three parts to us over and over again.
On the first day of the course, quite a few of the 15 participants still doubted whether they would ever be able to coordinate their minds, bodies, arms, and legs according to the choreography over the weekend. We were all the more surprised when, by the end of the second day, all the dancers were actually able to dance through the entire Dzamling Gar song smoothly and without major mistakes!
Through the practice of singing and dancing, exploring the space together, and being mindful of ourselves and our fellow dancers, a wonderful, harmonious, and very cheerful sense of community had developed. Since participants had stopped in Widdersberg on their way home from Merigar to attend the course having just picked up a Stupa of the 108-Stupa Project, we had the very special and auspicious opportunity to dance in It’s presence. At the end of this inspiring course, the participants went their separate ways—with great joy in their hearts!
