Through movement, dancing and playing

The Fire Horse Year has begun and in Merigar, amid practices and hanging the new prayer flags and banners, on February 21st the land was blessed with children in events that included play, music, Kumar Kumari yantra yoga and Khaita dances.

In the morning the little ones (1 and 1/2 years to 4 years) were invited to the  Yellow House;  the children’s corner was expanded, making room to explore and play with pongo, kapla blocks, a train set with wooden tracks. There was also dress up and a house corner; a ‘comfy’ cushion area with books was made and one of the mothers took on the role of storyteller and reader.

Merigar invites small children to come again, on Saturday March 14th from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Art activities will be added to the environment, this next time round.

In the afternoon, in the Mandala Room, 12 children participated in a movement workshop with Letizia Pizzetti and Elvira Riposati, reflecting on how the dynamic energy the Fire Horse Year will feel.

Letizia Pizzetti opened the session by introducing Kumar Kumari Yoga, beginning with breathing and simple warm-up exercises, then gradually progressing through the practice until the Yantra movement, the Serpent was presented.

The program engaged not only the children, but also the parents present — mothers and four fathers — creating a dynamic and fun atmosphere.  The activity concluded with a final relaxation in a lying position, which restored calm and harmony after all the energy of earlier movements.

After a break with juice, water, and cookies, Elvira Riposati presented three Khaita dances, one of which used the khatag as an auspicious gesture to welcome the New Year.

Stay tuned for the next spring event for older children in Merigar — date to be announced.

Tashi Delek from all the children of Merigar!
