Dear Friends and Readers,
With great joy we present a Special Issue of The Mirror to commemorate the 10th anniversary of our Global Gar, Dzamling Gar. The Gar, situated in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands in Spain, was officially inaugurated in November 2013 by its founder, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, as a seed for developing evolution in the world and as a central hub for the many Gars in the International Dzogchen Community around the globe. It gave an opportunity, a base, for all of his students to come together, go beyond their sense of limitations and work together.
The early years at the Gar were centered on physically transforming an enormous building site into a liveable and functioning space. The Master regularly gave profound teachings in a large white tent, the first “Gönpa” or meeting hall, while the evenings were joyfully spent in Rinpoche’s company during the Khaita Songs and Dances. At the same time the garden areas were gradually established and started to beautify and enhance the many concrete structures at the Gar.
The most challenging work at the Gar was the construction of the present Gönpa or Meeting Hall, particularly due to its costs which were met by the brilliant fundraising and tireless work of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in creating “Evolution Creations”, a series of beautiful necklaces and bracelets that would be auctioned.
Now that the physical building work has been completed, the Gar has been able to open its doors to the entire Dzogchen Community with many types of courses related to Rinpoche’s teachings, but also, and perhaps more importantly, to the general public through different types of activities and courses with local communities and at the Gar.
Our Special Issue touches on some of those moments that accompanied the Gar up to today.
You can download the full color Special Issue here or from our website melong.com or dzogchen.net.
We hope you enjoy reading it!
With love,
