Dear Vajra-siblings,
After the summer-months I give you some brief information about the various activities of the Shang Shung Institute Austria.
As you know, the main activity of the SSI-AT is the KA-TER TRANSLATION PROJECT and the translation work of the COMPLETE WORKS OF CHÖGYAL NAMKHAI NORBU.
Part of the Ka-Ter translation project is also the initiative of the translation of the DRA THALYGUR TANTRA.
In April 2015 Chögyal Namkhai Norbu gave the lung of the entire tantra and the work on that tantra has already begun. Most of the work was done up to now by Rinpoche himself.
On August 1st 2015, during the Dzogchen-retreat in Warsaw, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu spoke about this tantra and his work:
“The Dra Thalgyur tantra is the number one, the most important Dzogchen teaching. It is also the most ancient teaching that exists in this globe.
In the period of the beginning of human beings, which in history is called the time of the togden, the Dra Thalgyur tantra was taught by Khyeu Nangwa Tampa. There is the commentary of the Dra Thalygur tantra. We did not know about this commentary when we were in Tibet but recently, a few years ago, we discovered this Dra Thalgyur tantra commentary.
For almost six years I worked on that commentary. I not only typed all in my computer and corrected it, as originally this Dra Thalygur commentary was hand-written and there were also many mistakes, in the end I completely succeeded to put it in my computer and to make it readable for everybody. It was very difficult.”
The root-text has already been put into the computer and Adriano Clemente, Elio Guarisco and Jim Valby have already started the work on its translation. Parts of the commentary are also in the process of being translated.
Publication of the translation of Tibetan texts within the KA-TER TRANSLATION PROJECT
Due to the incredible work of Elio Guarisco several books could be published with Shang Shung Publications. All these books are a result of the translation work within the Ka-ter translation project. Just recently the latest book “The Secret Map of the Body” by Gyalwa Yangönpa was published.

For more then three decades Adriano Clemente has dedicated his time and knowledge and wisdom to the translation of the teachings of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu. Adriano has been responsible for the translation of all teachings and texts of Rinpoche for so many years. We all value his tireless effort so much, to make these unique teachings and texts of Rinpoche – like all the LONGSAL teachings – accessible for us in an English translation from Tibetan. What a fantastic and beneficial support for all of us.
Only two months ago the unique and most incredible teaching of Rinpoche on the DANCE OF THE VAJRA was published after many years of intensive translation-work done by Adriano:
Besides the above mentioned translation-works, the Shang Shung Institute Austria also offers
TIBETAN LANGUAGE COURSES and trainings for beginners, for intermediate and for advanced students.
