About LOSAR – Open Talk with Tenzin Kunga
Tibetan New Year is called Losar and is celebrated to welcome the New Year. New Year is a festival common to the whole world and celebrated at different times, according to the way the beginning of a new year is calculated. There are, however, great differences within Tibet regarding the preparations for the auspicious ceremonies of the New Year determined by the customs of certain regions. Tibetan people who live in high, snowy regions have many traditional festivals, the New Year being the most elaborate.
Tenzin Kunga is offering an open Talk about how Tibetans are celebrating Losar in a traditional way. We are going to hear detailed explanations of certain preparations and ceremonies, he will tell about the history and origin of welcoming the New Year, and by this we can gain a deeper understanding why and how it is meaningful to perform these traditions of the Losar.
About Tenzin Kunga
Tenzin Kunga was born in India from an originally Tibetan family. Currently he is living in Italy, Rome, where he has been working for ASIA since 2016 as a specialist of Tibetan culture. He gained his knowledge of Tibetan culture first of all from his family, then from Sera, Sakya and Drukpa Kagyu monasteries of Bylakuppei, South-India and from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.
Besides his work for Tibetan culture he is an artist, painting in a special style, and he has studied and is teaching calligraphy as well.
