The Dzogchen Community presented the Vajra Dance for the Benefit of Sentient Beings
The VIII interreligious celebration for peace, organized by ‘Juntas En la misma dirección’ (together in the same direction), through the Tenerife interreligious dialogue group and Adeje council, took place on Saturday May 21st in Adeje.
The event, which coincided with the global celebration of Cultural Diversity Day, was held in the Parque El Madroñal in Adeje, in the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Plaza, from 5.30pm, to 8pm. The goal of the event was to show that peace, respect and social harmony between different religious communities isn’t just possible, but beneficial in places with a large cultural diversity, such as Tenerife. During the evening different communities presented cultural activities and a manifesto for peace with an interreligious dimension was read.
This is the eighth celebration of the event. Adeje is seen as an excellent location for this year’s celebrations, given its high level of cultural and religious diversity and the perfect place celebrate the “Tenerife living Diversity” theme, a long-term project of the ‘Juntas En la misma dirección’ association.
Taking part was a range of different religious groups who are part of the ‘Juntas’ association, which is supported by the Cabildo and assisted by the University of La Laguna through the ObiTen group, the Immigration in Tenerife Observatory. The participants were Adidam Ruchiradam, the Asociación Hindu Indian Temple, the Baha’i faith, the catholic community, the Ghe Pel Ling Canarias Buddhists, the Dzogchen International Dzamling Gar Community, a the secular spiritual community, the Tenerife Hare Krishna movement and the Muslim community. Members of the Orthodox Church were invited guests.
Adeje mayor Jose Miguel Rodriguez Fraga said, “Adeje is a borough where multi-cultural diversity is part of our lives and is respected. To be hosting this event is, without doubt, an opportunity to continue on the path to peace, social harmony, co-existence, so important in these days. Where there is conflict we need to respond with dialogue, respect that which unites us rather than those things that divide us, because what we are talking about is creating a world where we can live together with all points of view allowed.”
The University of La Laguna rector, Rosa María Aguilar, said “this celebration is a terrific example of how communicating between those of different faiths can bring people together to express a message of peace and understanding.” The Cabildo councillor for socio-economic development, Carmen Luz Baso said these kinds of activities serve to show us the things that can bring us together, and how to leave behind the things that separate us.
The Dzogchen Community also provided 400 momos prepared by our intrepid momo team Irina, Medegma and Rabgyi!

El evento público se llevó a cabo en la Plaza de la Paz Mahatma Gandhi, de 5:30 p. m. a 8:00 p. m. el 21 de mayo.
La Comunidad Dzogchen presentó la Danza Vajra en Beneficio de los Seres Sintientes
La VIII celebración interreligiosa por la paz, organizada por Juntas en la misma dirección, a través del Grupo de Diálogo Interreligioso de Tenerife y el Ayuntamiento de Adeje, tuvo lugar el sábado 21 de mayo en Adeje.
El acto, que coincidió con la celebración mundial del Día de la Diversidad Cultural, se celebró en el Parque El Madroñal de Adeje, en la Plaza de la Paz Mahatma Gandhi, de 17.30 a 20.00 horas. El objetivo del evento era mostrar que la paz, el respeto y la armonía social entre las diferentes comunidades religiosas no solo es posible, sino beneficiosa en lugares con una gran diversidad cultural, como Tenerife. Durante la velada diferentes comunidades presentaron actividades culturales y se leyó un manifiesto por la paz con una dimensión interreligiosa.
Esta es la octava celebración del evento. Adeje es visto como un excelente lugar para las celebraciones de este año, dado su alto nivel de diversidad cultural y religiosa y el lugar perfecto para celebrar el tema “Tenerife vive la Diversidad”, un proyecto a largo plazo de la asociación ‘Juntas En la misma dirección’.
Participaron diferentes grupos religiosos que forman parte de la asociación ‘Juntas’, que cuenta con el apoyo del Cabildo y la asistencia de la Universidad de La Laguna a través del grupo ObiTen, el Observatorio de la Inmigración en Tenerife. Participaron Adidam Ruchiradam, la Asociación Hindu Indian Temple, la fe bahá’í, la comunidad católica, los budistas Ghe Pel Ling Canarias, la Comunidad Dzogchen International Dzamling Gar, la comunidad espiritual laica, el movimiento Hare Krishna de Tenerife y la comunidad musulmana comunidad. Los miembros de la Iglesia Ortodoxa fueron invitados.
El alcalde de Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, dijo: “Adeje es un municipio donde la diversidad multicultural es parte de nuestras vidas y se respeta. Ser sede de este evento es, sin duda, una oportunidad para continuar en el camino de la paz, la armonía social y la convivencia, tan importantes en estos días. Donde hay conflicto necesitamos responder con diálogo, respetar lo que nos une y no lo que nos divide, porque de lo que estamos hablando es de crear un mundo donde podamos vivir juntos con todos los puntos de vista permitidos”.
La rectora de la Universidad de La Laguna, Rosa María Aguilar, dijo que “esta celebración es un excelente ejemplo de cómo la comunicación entre personas de diferentes religiones puede unir a las personas para expresar un mensaje de paz y comprensión”. La concejala de Desarrollo Socioeconómico del Cabildo, Carmen Luz Baso, dijo que este tipo de actividades sirven para mostrarnos las cosas que nos pueden unir y cómo dejar atrás las cosas que nos separan.
