News from the Baja Gar (Mexico), Tsegyalgar West

The Gar this year has embraced change and development for our 3,000 acres land already endowed with 23 casitas, a Mexican kitchen, hot showers, and a camping site. And yes, we are the largest Gar of them all.

The change with the most far reaching consequences is the creation of a Master Plan to develop the land in an ecological sensitive manner.  Last year, we completed a thorough assessment (done by eco-planners, an architect and a biologist) which established the main facts and maps to proceed to a Master Plan.

We have now an Architect, Santiago de la Mora, who generously agreed to do the Master Plan, free of charge, over a period of 6 months.  We have three people interested in living on the Gar who want to build their own green home there.  With the hydraulic engineer, we researched additional existing water sources (there are several springs on the land) to create the plan and the infrastructure for increased water needs & waste disposal.

We wish to start producing some of our own organic vegetables and fruit for self-consumption (we do have a couple of mango trees), and have herbs and a tree nursery.

We are also in conversation with Pronatura, the premier NGO in Central America to sponsor eco-reserves, and we hope to receive the benefit of their expertise and support.

Baja has been for years a major tourist destination – so much so that the amount of development and the cost of land  have sky-rocketed in recent years.  The preservation and protection of the central Sierras is therefore a priority to guarantee a beautiful and pristine environment for future generations of practitioners.

We scheduled Vajra Dance and Yantra Yoga retreats this Spring, and in the Fall we will host for 10 days Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo who will lecture, see patients, and teach a 3-day seminar on Tibetan Medicine at the Gar.

Consider having your next vacation in Baja (the Sea of Cortez is one of the most spectacular places in the world, with a coral reef, white sands, palm trees), and combine it with a stay at the gar.

We will recruit a new gakyil in June-July, and we wish to invite people from the US and mainland Mexico or other Central American countries to consider joining the TW gakyil.  If you can commit to visiting the gar at least once in one year, the
