To Whom it May Concern:

The American Tibetan Medical Association (ATMA) and the Shang Shung Institute (SSI) work diligently to protect our craft, promote our science, and preserve our intellectual and cultural heritage as it relates to the primary Tibetan science of medicine. With your help, we are eager to expand our efforts further with several crucial activities and culminating in a historic international conference on Tibetan medicine in the summer of 2014.

The conference will couple theory with practice, alternating between historical/theoretical /conceptual education and hands-on experiences of the various techniques. The conference focuses on Tibetan Medicine at its best with rigorous investigation of how TM is used to treat cancer, arthritis, heart disease, stroke, and mental illness —those conditions so prevalent and confounding for the American public and the doctors who serve them.

ATMA’s presentation of the standardization of practice and education of Tibetan medicine will be the highlight of the event. These standards will be presented for ratification to a large group of assembled practitioners at a special session. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, Honarary Chief Advisor, ATMA, will deliver the lead address.

This historic event is open to the public. It will take place at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City, July 25 – 27, 2014. The conference will be a part of the Rubin Museum’s current exhibition on Tibetan medicine, entitled Bodies in Balance.

With the help of your contribution, we will assemble, document, and archive the immense knowledge of Tibetan medicine’s great living masters who are currently practicing throughout Tibet, India, and the Himalayan region. We are hopeful that you will view our efforts as being in concert with your own and worthy of support.

With Deep Gratitude,
Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo
President and Founder, American Tibetan Medical Association
Director, Shang Shung International Institute of Tibetan Medicine
