Back at the beginning, 2011 at Meriling, North Tenerife, Rinpoche used the name Tibetan Modern Dances to indicate the daily (and partially nightly) activity of singing and dancing the new songs of young Tibetan artists.
After a while, singing and dancing was taking more and more space and time, clearly conveying aspects related not only to Tibetan culture but also to those Teachings and values of which the Master was the holder. At that point, while searching for a sentence that could express this sense, Harmony in the Space manifested. For a while, we kept using this name.
The next step was to find a Tibetan term containing the words space and harmony. In this unique and interesting Rinpoche’s handwriting, we can see the passages and research, all the attempts before finding Khaita. We read:
Longta: Long=space + Ta=harmony, melody
Khata: Kha=sky + Ta=harmony
Khalongta: Kha=sky + Long=space + Ta=harmony
And then finally Khaita, like a clear beam, was born.
As a symbol of this, Rinpoche suggested to adopt an infinite golden knot on the planet earth.
Once Rinpoche told us that Khaita – Harmony in the Space – refers to all the activities of Dzogchen Community related to movement, including Yantra Yoga, Vajra Dance and the Joyful Dances.
Once Khaita was found, Rinpoche, Rosa and I looked for a specific way to name the dances, a name that could convey the profound state we share while dancing, together with the real joy and the harmony arising from the sounds and the movements: the Joyful Dances was born.
