On Wednesday, March 20, Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo gave the lecture “Introduction to the General Aspects of Traditional Tibetan Medicine: The daily practice of a Tibetan doctor” at the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences and Communication of the University of La Laguna, thanks to the close relationship between the International Atiyoga Foundation and the University.

Prof. Martín Páez, (Professor of Anthropology of the ULL) invited Dr. Phuntsog to give a lecture to his students of the Religious Diversity and Cultural Integration track of the Social Anthropology program of the ULL. The purpose of the lecture was to present directly the important aspects of Tibetan Medicine and its cultural importance from the knowledge of an international reference such as Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo (International Director of the School of Tibetan Medicine of the Shang Shung Institute and Director of the Tibetan Medicine Department of ATIF).  Professor Martin Paez is very interested in strengthening the relationship with Dr. Phuntsog through ATIF to publish academic articles on Tibetan Medicine and its important spiritual and social context.

The lecture was held in the prestigious “Sala de Juntas” of the Law Faculty of the ULL. It was also attended by Prof. Díaz de Velasco (Professor of Anthropology and History at ULL and member of the Royal Spanish Academy of History) and Prof. Burguess (Professor of English Philology at ULL and member of the Board of Rigpa International and President of Rigpa Tenerife), with whom the Atiyoga Foundation is collaborating to carry out several projects in the near future.

During the lecture, Dr. Phuntsog was supported by our beloved Rosa Namkhai and by the resident doctors Menpa Irina and Menpa Medegma (Tibetan Medicine School of Tenerife), as well as by several members of Dzamling Gar, including Gloriana Brenes Gonzalez, the director of Dzamling Gar, and Atiyoga Foundation who were present as audience members.

We would like to thank Professor Martín Páez and his students for their participation and their great interest in Traditional Tibetan Medicine. We would also like to thank Gustavo Villalobos for his valuable translation into Spanish during the lecture.
